Greenhouse Gas Equivalencies Calculator (United States Environmental Protection Agency) /msg?ID=669
Did you ever wonder what reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by one million metric tons means in everyday terms? The EPA online equivalency calculator can help you understand just that.
The Environmental Protection Agency online calculator lets individuals, government agencies and companies translate greenhouse gas reduction estimates into everyday terms.
The Greenhouse Gas Equivalences Calculator converts carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, typically presented in million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, into terms such as number of cars per year, barrels of oil or gasoline, or energy for a number of homes per year.
The calculator also converts emission metrics into tanker trucks' worth of gasoline, trees per acre, waste recycling or electricity generated from coal-fired power plants for a year.
Users can enter savings in emissions, electricity consumption, gallons of gasoline or number of vehicles into the greenhouse gas calculator and generate up to 13 different ways to express the magnitude of the savings.
The calculator uses the agency's Emissions and Generation Resource Integrated Database (eGRID).
That database converts kilowatt-hours of electricity generation into units of carbon dioxide emissions. The eGRID contains a comprehensive environmental performance record of electric power systems nationwide. It uses plant-specific data for all U.S. electricity generating plants that provide power to the electric grid.
The agency's eGRID system contains air emissions data for nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide and mercury. The latest version, eGRID2006 Version 2.1, includes data up to 2004, the latest available, EPA said in a statement announcing the online calculator's launch.
Utilities and other companies that own electricity generating plants report data on fuel consumption, generation, and emissions, along with plant identification, location, and structural information to the EPA. The eGRID data covers almost all the electricity generating units nationwide.
The system also allows users to sort the emissions, generation and rate data by state, electric generating company, parent company, power control area, eGRID subregion, power pool and U.S. total levels.
The EPA developed the calculator to help individuals and organizations reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, develop reduction targets and accurately publicize pollution reduction strategies.
EPA’s online tool shows that if a typical household switched all its incandescent light bulbs to Energy Star qualified compact fluorescent bulbs, it would save about 75 percent of its lighting electricity use, or about 1,463 kWh a year. After five years, these savings are equivalent to conserving 530 gallons of gasoline or recycling 1.6 tons of waste.

Tree-mendous Tampa Free Tree Program /msg?ID=533
Use this service to request trees be planted along the street right-of-way to enhance the neighborhood and help sustain Tampa’s community forest and shade canopy.
Use this service to request trees be planted along the street right-of-way to enhance the neighborhood and help sustain Tampa’s community forest and shade canopy.
The Community Tree Program,
was established in 1997 by the City of Tampa Parks and Recreation Department.
The goals for this program are to enhance neighborhoods and help increase Tampa's
Urban Forest. This program encourages individual and community involvement at
both the time of planting and beyond, generating a sense of responsibility and
environmental stewardship within the community.
Ways Trees Can Benefit Your Neighborhood
Trees help clean the air we breathe.
Trees help clean our water by holding rainfall on the leaves and
branches, making the threats of flooding less likely.
Trees save energy by shading buildings and minimizing the need for air
conditioning
Trees give the neighborhoods a sense of place, a community where
neighbors know one another, and slow traffic
Studies show that trees help us feel peaceful and secure as they bring a
bit of nature into our urban environments.
Trees bring people together and neighborhoods are made stronger by the
shady streets and parks.
The tree canopy is essential for sustaining a viable ecosystem for
birds, small animals, and the rest of the web of life that surrounds us
How the Program Works
Trees are planted on City rights-of-way, which are located between the
curb and sidewalk.
Residents are responsible for watering the new tree
for the first year after planting.
Limit of 2 trees per annual planting year. Demise of any tree does not guarantee a
replacement.
Each site will be inspected to carefully match the new tree to existing
landscape conditions and or restrictions.
Watering Guidelines
Watering is the single most important step in the survival of the newly
planted tree(s). A commitment of a 90 day watering schedule will need to be
followed.
1st set of 30 days after planting; water every day
2nd set of 30 days after planting; water every other day
3rd set of 30 days after planting; water every 3 days or twice a week
After the initial 90 day watering schedule; water 1 (once) a week and more
often during times of shortage in rainfall. If your tree shows signs of
wilting or leaves turning brown and falling off, water daily until tree
shows no sign of wilting and new healthy growth appears.

Request a Grant Letter of Support /msg?ID=768
The City of Tampa Grants Office has established the following process for organizations requesting a letter of support for a grant proposal. In situations where the Grants Office provides a letter of support, agencies must recognize that the Grants Office is neither a partner nor a required assuring entity for the grant. The Grants Office recognizes that grant applicants, if successful, may be able to support and/or enhance services consistent with the City of Tampa’s mission, thereby, improving the lives of the local community by maximizing funding resources other than those provided by the City. For this reason, City officials may wish to provide a letter of support.
The Grants Office will review proposals carefully and will give each request serious consideration; paying particular attention to the programmatic, fiscal, administrative, and legal aspects of the proposal and the anticipated outcomes to Tampa residents.
The following procedure should serve as minimal guidelines for all applicants seeking a letter of support. PLEASE BE SURE TO UPLOAD A SAMPLE LETTER OF SUPPORT AT THE END OF THE FORM.

Water Pressure Issue /msg?ID=223
Use this service to report an issue related to water pressure.
"Low water pressure" issues may be easily resolved within your residence. Customers experiencing low pressure often find debris clogging their faucet aerator screens. An easy way to help determine where the pressure problem may be is to open an outside spigot. If you have good pressure at the spigot, then the problem is located within the plumbing system. If that's the case, you should consult a plumber to see what remedies are available. However, if you have a water softener, try by-passing the system to see it the pressure improves. If it does you may have a clogged filter. Also, if you live in an apartment or condo and do not pay your utility bill directly to the City, please contact your building manager to address issues related to water pressure.

Water Taste Concern /msg?ID=816
Use this service to report water that has a bad taste.
Tampa’s water disinfection method will be changed temporarily from chloramine to chlorine from November 6, 2023 to November 27, 2023. This is a routine switchover that adds an extra layer of protection for the water we deliver to you. You may experience a taste or odor difference, but our water remains safe to drink.
Please note that the plumbing in your home may affect the taste of your water. If you are new to Tampa, you may still be used to the “taste” of “flavor” of the water you had before. In fact, water actually does not have a taste. The taste comes from dissolved minerals in the water. The source of the water will determine the degree of naturally occurring minerals that can give rise to slightly different tastes. That is why water from different areas tastes different. Tampa’s primary water source is the Hillsborough River. Surface water may sometimes have a flat, earthy taste instead of the slightly metallic taste typically associated with ground water.
