JOB PURPOSE: The selected candidate will be responsible for overseeing and participating, when necessary, in work of a medium-sized crew performing grounds maintenance tasks or other related municipal services.


  • Overseeing, assigning, and participating in work of crews engaged in grounds maintenance, and maintenance of rights-of-way and medians, relating to Clean City operations.

  • Maintaining records of completed work orders, time cards and other related documentation/reports.

  • Inspecting work in progress and offering advice and instructions.

  • Operating light to medium automotive equipment such as aerial lift platform, backhoe, bucket truck, and 2Ĺ ton dump truck equipment as required.

  • Installing or removing traffic control barricades, cones, etc. to control traffic flow and for safety.

  • Assigning, directing, and reviewing work of crews involved in maintenance of streets, tree removal, and ditch cleaning;

  • Checking and maintaining vehicles and equipment.

  • Training new employees.

  • Applying fertilizer and insecticide on city property in order to complete assigned duties.

  • Performing related work as required.


  • Knowledge of principles, practices, materials, techniques, and tools used in grounds maintenance, and maintenance of rights-of-way and medians..

  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.

  • Knowledge of basic records keeping.

  • Ability to assign, oversee, and review work of lower level personnel.

  • Ability to perform work requiring physical strength and endurance.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  • Skill in the use and care of hand tools, power tools, and other grounds maintenance related materials and equipment.

  • Skill in the use and care of light to medium automotive equipment.


    Completion of tenth grade and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in construction and maintenance work related to assigned area, including six (6) months of lead experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid Florida Commercial driverís license (CDL "B" with Airbrakes and Tanker endorsement is required. Submit copy of license with applicaiton
