Nature of Work: Performs tasks involving supervision of and responsibility for the work of assigned detectives, police officers or other personnel.

Minimum Qualifications:

For Examination Participation:

  • Three (3) years of experience with the Tampa Police Department and

  • Two (2) years of college credits (60-semester or 90 quarter hours).

    NOTE: Experience must be obtained prior to midnight, September 30, 2013. Individuals with less than the required education may sit for the exam but will not be eligible for promotion until proof of completed education is provided.

    For Promotion Consideration:

  • Four (4) years of experience with the Tampa Police Department including at least one (1) year as a Detective or Corporal; and

  • Two (2) years of college credits (60-semester or 90 quarter hours); and

  • A rating of satisfactory or higher on the most recent performance evaluation.


    - 80% Written Test (Weighted - 80% multiple choice; 20% In-Basket).

    - 10% Education

    - 10% Seniority
