JOB PURPOSE: The selected applicant will be performing routine mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance services.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Removing, repairing and/or replacing tires on heavy equipment, sedans and trucks. Performing lubrication of such vehicles as heavy trucks, pay loaders, graders, and solid waste packers.Operating pneumatic and mechanical tools and equipment.Checking work orders for accuracy and ensuring all tasks are completed.Ordering needed parts and lubricants.Changing or cleaning filters, batteries and accessory units. Making service calls on automotive equipment in the field.Utilizing the FASTER fleet information management system to research vehicle histories, and entering proper repair codes, work order statuses and detailed notes. Receiving and issuing equipment and automotive supplies. Performing related work as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS:Knowledge of standard methods, safety procedures, practices, tools, and equipment employed in automotive servicing and maintenance.Knowledge of tire repair and/or heavy equipment lubrication, where required.Ability to comply with oral and written instructions.Ability to read and understand automotive service manuals.Ability to maintain simple records.Ability to perform work requiring physical strength and endurance and work out of doors and in inclement weather.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the public.Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment employed in automotive servicing, maintenance, and minor repair work.
QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of the tenth grade and six (6) months experience in automotive servicing, maintenance and minor repair work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
A high school or vocational school diploma is preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.(Submit copy of license with application)
EXAMINATION: Evaluation of training and experience.
