JOB PURPOSE: An employee in this class is responsible for planning, coordinating, directing, and producing television programs.


  • Procures, produces, schedules, directs, edits, and programs television programs and public service announcements for telecast.

  • Forwards schedules to the local media for publication.

  • Produces telecasts of public meetings and public information programs describing the services or activities of various city departments.

  • Procures and enters information into the city bulletin board.

  • Works in conjunction with city staff (government access producers) to prepare public information programs.

  • Instructs city employees in the use of video production equipment and the production of television programs.

  • Assists video-engineer in microwave, lighting, audio, and remote camera set up and other engineering duties.

  • Operates motor vehicle as required.

  • Maintains video library.

  • Performs related work as required.


    Working knowledge of: video production including directing, technical directing, camera, graphics, audio, and editing; waveform monitor, vectorscope, camera phasing and microwave; traffic and automated playback; word processing and scripting programs.

    Ability to: operate common video production equipment such as cameras, switchers, audio mixers, and editors; perform troubleshooting; clearly express complex ideas verbally and in written form; edit material; instruct others in the use and care of production equipment; plan, coordinate, and direct television productions; use microcomputer to perform word processing and script writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    Skill in: operation of video production equipment; operation of motor vehicles.

    QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelorís degree in telecommunications, mass communications or a related field and one (1) year of experience in a variety of television production areas (i.e., audio, automated playback, camera, computerized graphics, directing, editing, engineering/basic technical skills, lighting, producing, script-writing, or technical directing/switching); or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid Florida driverís license; a valid Florida Commercial driverís license may be required.
