JOB PURPOSE:The selected candidate will performs mechanical maintenance and repair activities of more than average difficulty on large and small capacity pumps, mechanical drives, mixers, gear boxes, valves, air compressors, refrigeration systems, chemical feed systems, conveyors, turbines, piping systems, diesel engines, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and other water treatment mechanical equipment or devices.


  • Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs small and large capacity finished and raw water pumps and valves; identifies and corrects causes of mechanical failure of equipment; maintains and repairs pneumatic and hydraulic equipment; maintains diesel driven and turbine driven emergency generator equipment.

  • Assists in the preparation of mechanical sketches of system layouts and installations; installs and aligns various types of shaft driven equipment; removes, repairs and/or replaces valves, couplings, bearings, gears, seals and other malfunctioning mechanical components.

    May also be required to update and complete work orders on the Computerized Maintenance Management System.

  • Performs general welding and metal cutting tasks; repairs, replaces and installs PVC and metal piping systems; performs basic carpentry, painting and other related building repairs.

  • Perform computer related work such as scheduling, opening, and closing work orders.

  • Performs related work as required.


Considerable knowledge of: maintenance and repair of small and large capacity pumps, mechanical drives, mixers, gear boxes, valves, and small power appliances; hydraulic systems and pneumatic systems.

Working knowledge of: Computer based work order systems, occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.

Ability to: assume a lead capacity and oversee other employees; locate, define, repair or modify defects in various mechanical equipment; interpret and work from equipment technical sketches and blueprints; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; work with and make repairs to/or install PVC pipe, copper pipe or tubing and other types of piping systems or materials; perform general welding and metal cutting, carpentry, painting and related building repair work.


Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school with one (1) year in practical experience and/or training in industrial mechanical maintenance; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


Possession of a valid Florida Driverís license; possession of, or ability to attain, within 18 months: Certification for Basic Mechanical and Level I Mechanical Skills.


Evaluation of training and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
