JOB PURPOSE: The selected candidate will perform responsible professional engineering work involving design activities for the Engineering Division of the Tampa Water Department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Preparing plans, specifications and cost estimates for improvements to water main design, repump stations and water plant improvements.Providing coordination of design and construction projects at David L. Tippin Water Treatment Facility.Coordinating plans/projects with other City departments and agencies.Providing project management from inception of design through construction activities.Assuring compliance with technical standards.Representing the Division at technical meetings and conferences.Preparing reports, making recommendations with respect to future projects. Performing related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge of principles and practices of the assigned area of engineering.Knowledge of federal, state, and municipal rules, regulations, ordinances, and other pertinent documents.Knowledge of engineering developments and information related to Water.Ability to coordinate and review the work of others engaged in a variety of engineering assignments.Ability to plan, design, and prepare complete engineering plans and specifications for major projects.Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.Ability to analyze engineering data and draw sound conclusions.Ability to prepare and submit detailed, clear, and concise reports, both orally and in writing.Ability to train others in the assigned area, as well as to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelorís degree in civil or environmental engineering, preferably related to the area of assignment (Water) and three (3) years engineering experience including one (1) year experience as a project engineer or manager related to the area of assignment.
Three (3) years experience in the design of underground utilities and/or water mains in the public right-of-way is desirable.Certification by the Florida Board of Professional Engineers as an Engineer Interns is required. Florida Professional Engineer License is desirable.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid Driverís License. Engineer Intern certification.
EXAMINATION: Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment medical examinations.
