09:12:38 THE FUTURE AS A VIABLE REGIONAL TRANSIT OPTION, AND I AGAIN

09:13:59 90% OF THOSE WHO RODE THE FERRY IDENTIFIED THEMSELVES AS
09:14:06 RESIDENTS OF THE TAMPA BAY AREA, AND PEOPLE FROM 72% OF ALL
09:14:10 PINELLAS AND HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY ZIP CODES USED THE FERRY AT
09:14:15 ONE POINT IN TIME DURING THIS PILOT PROGRAM.
09:14:20 WE HAD OVER 40,000 PASSENGERS USE THE FERRY BETWEEN NOVEMBER
09:14:24 OF 2016 THROUGH APRIL OF 2017 WITH THE HIGHEST PAID
09:14:31 RIDERSHIP OCCURRING IN APRIL OF 2017 WHEN WE HAD OVER 10,000
09:14:36 PASSENGERS RIDE THE FERRY.
09:14:39 IT WAS NICE TO SO THAT UPPER TREND.

09:14:41 IT REALLY STARTED IN JANUARY WHEN WE WERE FULLY, NO PUN
09:14:47 INTENDED, ON BOARD WITH REGULAR SERVICE, REGULAR PRICING AS
09:14:50 OPPOSED TO OFFERING SOME DISCOUNTS AND THINGS OF THAT SORT
09:14:53 OR FREE RIDES WHICH WE HAD IN NOVEMBER AND A LITTLE BIT OF

09:15:47 CLEARLY, NONCOMMUTER SERVICE WAS NOT, AND THAT'S WHY YOU SAW
09:15:52 SO MANY PASSENGERS FOR NONCOMMUTER.

09:16:29 THE OTHER THING THAT WAS REALLY NICE IS THAT WHEN YOU GOT
09:16:32 OFF THE BOAT, WHETHER YOU WERE GETTING OFF IN ST. PETE OR IN
09:16:34 TAMPA, THERE WAS A BIKE SHARE STATION THERE.
09:16:38 AND IT WAS THE SAME COMPANY, ST. PETE AND TAMPA BOTH USE

09:16:43 SO MEMBERS WERE ABLE TO USE IT ON EITHER SIDE OF THE BAY AND
09:16:47 USE IT EASILY.

09:17:51 AND WE SAW THAT 75% OF THOSE WHO WENT OVERUSING THE FERRY
09:17:56 CAME BACK TO THEIR ORGANIZATION DESTINATION BY FERRY WITH
09:18:01 ROUGHLY 17% USING SOME FORM OF RIDE SHARE.
09:18:08 AND THIS WAS AN IMPORTANT SLIDE.
09:18:10 WHY DID PEOPLE EVEN RIDE THE FERRY?
09:18:13 AND TWO-THIRDS OF THOSE SURVEYED SAID THEIR TRIP WAS INDUCED
09:18:18 BY THIS MODE OF TRANSPORTATION AND HAD IT NOT BEEN FOR THE
09:18:20 FERRY THEY OTHERWISE MIGHT NOT HAVE MADE THE TRIP ACROSS THE
09:18:24 BAY.
09:18:25 ONE THIRD STATED THAT THEY USED THE FERRY INSTEAD OF THEIR
09:18:28 CAR TO MAKE A TRIP THAT THEY HAD PREVIOUSLY PLANNED.
09:18:30 AND SO PART OF OUR GOAL WITH THE FERRY PROJECT WAS NOT ONLY
09:18:34 OPENING UP OUR TWO COMMUNITIES MORE SO, BUT ALSO TO HELP GET
09:18:40 PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR CARS AND GETTING USED TO A DIFFERENT
09:18:43 MODE OF TRANSIT OTHER THAN SIMPLY RIDING IN A CAR.
09:18:50 THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT SLIDE OF EVERY ONE THAT I AM

09:18:55 LOCAL IMPACT ON OUR -- THE EARLY IMPACT ON OUR LOCAL

09:19:00 WE ALL KNOW THAT WHEN WE DID THIS PILOT, EACH OF OUR
09:19:04 COMMUNITIES ALL FOUR OF US PUT IN $350,000.

09:19:10 THAT'S NOT COUNTING THE MONEY THAT EACH OF US ENDED UP
09:19:13 GETTING BACK AT THE END OF THE SERVICE.
09:19:16 AND SO WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING AT INVESTING MONEY, YOU WANT TO
09:19:19 SEE A RETURN ON THAT INVESTMENT.
09:19:20 YOU WANT TO SEE THAT IT HAD SOME IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY.
09:19:24 AND WHAT THIS SLIDE SHOWS IS THAT IT DID HAVE THAT IMPACT.
09:19:28 THE MORE THAN 30% OF THE PASSENGERS SURVEYED, THE AVERAGE
09:19:32 AMOUNT THEY INDICATED THEY SPENT WAS MORE THAN 100 DOLLARS

09:19:37 SO WHEN WE EXTRAPOLATE THE AVERAGE SPENT BY ALL RESPONDENTS
09:19:42 VERSUS THE NUMBER OF PASSENGERS, WHAT WE SEE IS THAT 1.6

09:19:49 SO THE ECONOMIC IMPACT OF THIS FERRY WAS 1.6 MILLION, WHICH
09:19:53 IS MORE THAN IT COST US TO OPERATE THE FERRY.
09:19:58 AND IT'S RARE THAT YOU SEE A TRANSIT, A MODE OF TRANSIT THAT
09:20:03 ACTUALLY BRINGS YOU A RETURN THAT'S GREATER THAN WHAT IT

09:20:10 WE ALSO LOOKED FROM A COST STANDPOINT THE FERRY COMPARED
09:20:14 WITH OTHER TRANSIT SERVICES.
09:20:18 LOOKING AT KING COUNTY FERRY, WHICH IS IN SEATTLE, WHICH HAS
09:20:21 BEEN A FERRY SERVICE IN PLACE FOR A VERY LONG TIME, OUR
09:20:24 OPERATING EXPENSE PER MILE WAS LESS, IN FAIRNESS TO KING
09:20:29 COUNTY IT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE WE HAVE ONE BOAT AND THEY HAVE
