WE HAVE ONLY BEEN IN THIS COMPLEX NOW -- IT WILL BE

FOUR MONTHS -- CORRECTION, FIVE MONTHS THIS MONTH.

WE GOT A NOTICE THAT OUR RENT IS GOING UP.

I CURRENTLY HAVE A TWO-BEDROOM APARTMENT PAYING $932 A

MONTH.

AS OF JUNE 1, MY RENT WILL GO UP TO $1043.

THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A 55 AND PLUS SENIOR COMMUNITY.

AND I WANTING THE RENT TO GO UP THIS SOON.

WE HAVEN'T EVEN BEEN IN THE UNIT FOR ONE YEAR, AND NOW

EVERYBODY GOT TO RUSH AROUND TO FIND OUT HOW TO PAY

THAT INCREASE.

FOR ME, I AM LOOKING THAT I CAN PAY IT, BUT IT IS GOING

TO BE A STRETCH.

AND IT IS NOT FAIR TO US.

I BROUGHT NINE RESIDENTS WITH ME THIS MORNING IN

REFERENCE TO THIS.

AT 75 YEARS OLD, I DIDN'T HAVE TO EXPECT TO GO BACK TO

WORK, BUT I AM GOING TO HAVE TO IN ORDER TO PAY THAT

DIFFERENCE.

AND IT IS NOT FAIR TO US, AND IT IS NOT FAIR TO ANY OF THE

RESIDENTS THERE.

WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT CAN WE TO DO STOP THIS.

A RESIDENT SENT ATTACHED ARTICLES.

AFTER CONVERSATIONS AND WITHIN MY AGENCY, WE FOUND OUT

THAT THE HUD HAS INCREASED THE SUBSIDY LEVEL FOR OUR

HOUSING.

AND BECAUSE THAT COMPLEX IS A SUBSIDIZED AREA.

AND WHEN THE HUD SUBSIDY CHANGED, IT WAS INCREASED,

THOSE RENTS WERE INCREASED AS WELL.

NOT SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE DONE IN THE CITY OR WITHIN

THE CRA.

BUT AT THIS TIME, WHAT I AM BEING TOLD IS IT IS ON THE

FEDERAL LEVEL.

REMEMBER THIS COUNCIL APPROVED THE RENT MOVE-IN

ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AND WE WERE TAKING APPLICATIONS WITH

THAT.

IF THE RESIDENTS ARE INCOME QUALIFIED, WE CAN HELP THEM

WITH THE DIFFERENCE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR.

UNFORTUNATELY IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT WE CAN CONTROL,

BUT THERE IS A PROGRAM THAT RECENTLY APPROVED THAT WE

CAN ALIGN THEM WITH OUR HOUSING AND COMMUNITY

DEVELOPMENT TEAM TO SEE IF WE CAN HELP THEM WITH THAT

GAP.

SOME THAT THEY MANAGE, TAMPA HOUSING MANAGES THEMSELVES

AND SOME THAT ARE PRIVATE VENDOR MANAGERS AND THEY HAVE

-- TO MAKE THE PAYMENT.

I BELIEVE UNDER THOSE -- THE SECOND ONE THINK THAT JUST

SAID, USUALLY THERE IS A YEARLY CONTRACT.

AND I DON'T KNOW IF THESE GOOD FOLKS HAVE A YEARLY

CONTRACT ON.THE SAME DAY OF THE SAME YEAR OR STAGGERED

THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.

I DON'T KNOW.

BUT USUALLY IT IS IN NOVEMBER, THE EARLY PART OF

AND MANAGEMENT SAID NO.

SO THEIR ISSUE IS, THEY WANT CRYSTAL CLEAR WHAT IS

GOING ON.

WHEN THEY WERE SIGNING THE LEASE, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN

CRYSTAL CLEAR THIS IS POTENTIALLY WHAT WOULD OCCUR IN

THE MIDST OF THE LEASE OF WHAT WAS GOING ON.

AND THEY WEREN'T CLEAR.

SO BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE ON FIXED INCOMES, THEY SHOULD

HAVE BEEN CRYSTAL CLEAR TO MAKE THAT DECISION WHETHER

TO MOVE THERE OR NOT TO MOVE THERE, YOU KNOW.

AND PEOPLE USE A LOT OF THEIR RESERVES TO MOVE AND NOW

THEY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING UNLESS THIEF 30-DAY NOTICE IF

MAKE PROVISION FOR LOW-INCOME FAMILIES AND CHILDREN NOT

TO BE IDLED THIS SUMMER, BUT HAVE REAL RECREATIONAL

CAMPS INSIDE OF OUR COMMUNITY THAT GIVE THEM ACCESS TO

PROGRAMS THAT ATTRACTS THEM TO GOING.

LAST WEEK WHEN I WAS HERE, I TALKED ABOUT A WONDERFUL

PROGRAM THAT IS OUT IN NEW TAMPA.

TUMBLING, JUMPING, ALL OF THAT.

NONE OF THAT EXISTS INSIDE OF OUR COMMUNITY.

AND LASTLY, SILVER OAKS IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY

WITH ALL KIND OF HORRIBLE THINGS HAPPENING TO THAT

COMMUNITY, WITH MANAGEMENT JUST MERELY THROWING PAINT.

SO, YES, IT IS FEDERAL.

YES, IT IS HOUSING.

MAYBE YOU NEED TO GET THE HOUSING AUTHORITY DOWN HERE

TO EXPLAIN SINCE WE DON'T HAVE A HUD DIVISION HERE TO

ANSWER THOSE QUESTIONS.

AND THEY ARE THE RECIPIENTS OF MONETIZING AND

MONITORING THESE PROPERTIES.

AND RECREATION HAD SOME KIND OF EXTENSIVE PROGRAM.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THAT IS.

I DO WANT TO KNOW WHAT THAT IS BECAUSE YOU ARE RIGHT.

I AM SO ENCOURAGED TO GET THAT EAST TAMPA CENTER UP AND

RUNNING TO HAVE THE AMENITIES LIKE NEW TAMPA, OTHER

PLACES, SOUTH TAMPA THAT HAVE GYMNASTICS AND DANCE AND

VITAL FOR THE YOUNG PEOPLE.

THEY ARE DANCING.

THEY ARE MAKING MUSIC.

THEY ARE DOING A LOT OF THINGS.

CAME UP AND THEY WERE ALL ADDRESSED AS IT RELATES TO

SOME OF THE CONCERNS IN EAST TAMPA AND NEIGHBORHOOD

ENHANCEMENT/CODE ENFORCEMENT.

WOULD LIKE TO LIFT UP AND HIGHLIGHT A COUPLE OF

COMMUNITY EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE WITH FDOT ON APRIL 19.

AND VIRTUAL PRESENTATION THAT TOOK PLACE ON THE 21ING.

FDOT IN OUR CONVERSATIONS AND WANTED TO HAVE

COMMUNICATION WITH THE COMMUNITY ABOUT WHAT THEY WOULD

LIKE TO SEE.

I KNOW HILLSBOROUGH AVENUE HAS BEEN A TOPIC OF

DISCUSSION AS IT RELATES TO TRAFFIC CALMING AND OTHER

AREAS, ARTERIAL ROADS THAT CUT THROUGH EAST TAMPA.

AND THEY WILL BE REPORTING PACK AT SOME POINT LATER

THIS YEAR WITH THE REPORT FROM THE SURVEYS THAT THEY

HAVE COLLECTED AND HOW THEY WILL BE MOVING FORWARD WITH

THE WORK THAT IS TO BE DONE.

WE CONTINUED TO -- IN EAST TAMPA, HAVE ONE ON ONE

MEETINGS WITH CAC MEMBER AND THE EAST TAMPA CRA STAFF.
