DALE!

Development Acceleration for Latinos’ Education

DALE!  is a one-day job-shadowing program for under-served Hispanic high school students in Hillsborough County which exposes them to role models in civic, corporate or professional fields. The aim is to encourage students to overcome cultural and/or language barriers, dream big, and pursue higher education in order to increase the talent, innovation and diversity of our workforce.

Event details: An educational job shadowing opportunity for Hispanic high school students within Hillsborough County. Students are picked up from their high school and transported to your local offices where they will meet diverse leaders who have excelled in their careers within finance, science, engineering, technology and/or diversity.  Flexible curriculum to be provided by you as a corporate sponsor on topics of  discussion such as S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) and the power of diversity at the workplace. In addition to hearing from your diverse leaders, the event may include a tour of your corporate facility or hands-on developmental experience by shadowing your employees on the job. Students will have lunch with your speakers, and then be transported back to their high school before dismissal.

As a follow up to your sponsored event, parents of Spanish speaking students will also be provided with six   college   preparation seminars offered in partnership with Hillsborough County Public Schools' "Pasos Al Futuro" program. These follow up events are held between the months of October through November for Parents/students grades 8-12, where a presentation is delivered in Spanish covering major topics such as different levels and degrees of university education, exams required for admission, financial aid and how to apply.

Business investment: Sponsor levels ranging from $300 to $1200 allocated as $600 for transportation, approximately $300 for lunch for students, and $300 towards scholarship and event funds.

Community impact:
Inspire under-served Hispanic high school students to overcome language and cultural barriers by learning from others that graduated from college, pursued a career within corporate America, embrace diversity and innovation at the workplace, and give back to their local communities. This program is also designed to increase access to mentors and professional role models.

Dates and times: Spring and fall terms. Dates TBD between your sponsoring corporation and a participating Hillsborough County public school with a high concentration of Hispanic students (inquire within). Event to last approximately 4.5 hours, tentatively from 8:30 am to 1 pm.
